Solar Battery Storage in Tenerife
Batteries aren't automatically worth adding to a Tenerife solar system. Whether they pay off depends heavily on when you actually use electricity during the day.
How grid feed-in works without a battery
Under Spain's 'compensación de excedentes' (simplified surplus compensation) scheme, solar power you generate but don't use yourself is exported to the grid and credited on your bill. Typically at €0.04–0.10 per kWh. That's well below the €0.15–0.18 per kWh you avoid paying when you use your own generation directly, which is the gap a battery is designed to close.
When a battery is worth it
If a large share of your household or business consumption happens in the evening. Cooking, air conditioning, appliances after work, or hospitality operations running into the night. A battery lets you store daytime surplus and use it later instead of exporting it cheaply and buying it back at retail price after dark. This is where batteries add the most value in Tenerife's climate and pricing structure, sometimes pushing total savings from 60–80% up to 90%+.
When it's not worth it yet
If you're mostly out during the day and your consumption is concentrated in daylight hours anyway. Or if your system is already well-matched to your usage pattern. The extra upfront cost of a battery may take longer to pay back than the panels themselves. Ask your installer to model battery payback against your actual bills and usage timing, not a generic assumption.

A 5–10 kWh lithium battery typically adds €3,500–€6,000 to a residential installation in Tenerife. Commercial battery storage is scaled and quoted per project based on load profile and backup requirements.
